4 . 3 . 2 S a m p l i n g t e s t s . T h e first 3 maintenance platforms on the order, and
o n e maintenance platform from each lot of 25 or fraction thereof on the order
shall be selected at random and subjected to the following tests:
4.3.2.1 A lot shall consist of the maintenance platforms manufactured under
essentially the same conditions, of the same material, and submitted for
inspection at substantially the same time.
4 . 3 . 2 . 2 R e j e c t i o n a n d r e t e s t . W h e n one or more maintenance platforms form a
lot fail to meet the specification, acceptance of all items in the lot shall be
w i t h h e l d u n t i l t h e e x t e n t a n d c a u s e o f f a i l u r e h a v e b e e n d e t e r m i n e d . The
contractor shall explain fully to the government representative the cause of
failure and the action taken to preclude recurrence. After correction all of
the sampling tests shall be repeated.
4.3.2.3 Individual test may continue. For production reasons, individual
t e s t or other sampling plans may be continued pending the investigation of a
sampling test failure. But final acceptance of the entire lot or lots produced
later (or items on hand or items produced later) shall not be made until it is
determined that all items meet all the requirements of the specification.
4.3.3 Defects in items
already accepted. The investigation of a test
failure could indicate that
defects may exist in items already accepted. If so,
the contractor shall fully
advise the procuring activity of all the defects
l i k e l y to be found and the
methods of correcting them.
4 . 4 T e s t m e t h o d s . T h e maintenance platform shall be assembled completely
a n d loaded with a static load of 1500 pounds, a t o r n e a r t h e c e n t e r o f t h e p l a t -
form. T h e m a i n t e n a n c e p l a t f o r m s h a l l t h e n b e o p e r a t e d t h r o u g h i t s e n t i r e r a n g e
t w i c e . T h e load shall then be removed and the maintenance platform operated
through its entire range twice. There shall be no leakage of hydraulic fluid,
elongation of bolt holes, or failure of welding, material, or workmanship.
4.4.1 With the load applied, as specified in 4.4 the maintenance platform
shall be left at the 17 foot level for a period of one hour without the locking
device in use. The rate of settling of the piston shall not exceed 0.02 inch
per hour.
4.4.2 Each step of the maintenance platform shall be individually tested
w i t h a s t a t i c l o a d o f 4 0 0 p o u n d s a t o r n e a r t h e c e n t e r o f t h e s t e p . The
deflection of each step under the load shall not exceed 1/4 inch and there shall
b e no permanent deflection when the load is removed.
4 . 5 I n s p e c t i o n o f t h e p r e s e r v a t i o n , p a c k a g i n g and marking for shipment and
storage.
Sample items of packs and the inspection of the preservation,
p a c k a g i n g , packing and marking for shipment and storage shall be in accordance
with the requirements of section 5, or the documents specified therein.
