MIL-M-87977(USAF)
3.5 Performance. The maintenance platform shall withstand the following
conditions without detrimental effect to subsequent, operation:
Operation in ambient temperatures randing from -40 F to +125 F, storage in
ambient temperatures ranging from -65 F to +160 F and relative humidity of 100
percent, including rain.
3.5.1 Stability.
a. The maintenance platform shall withstand a wind velocity of 40 miles per
hour when unsupported by aircraft contact, with 500 pounds on the top platform,
Under these conditions, the horizontal movement of the upper floor level shall not
exceed 1.5 inches in either direction from center. Calculations may be submitted to
prove stability of the maintenance platform for wind conditions.
b. When loaded with 600 pounds evenly distributed on the side 33% of the
upper floor the side of the platform shall not lower more than 1 inch.
3.5,2 Concentrated Load. Representative areas of the maintenance platform proper
shall be subjected to a concentrated load of 200 pounds over a six inch square area
with maximum deflection of . 25 inch and without permanent set.
3.5.3 Steps Proof Test Load, The steps shall be capable of withstanding a load
of 400 pounds without damage or permanent deformation when the load is placed at or
near the center of each step,
3.5,4 Proof Test Load. The following individual test loads shall be performed to
prove structural integrity of the maintenance platform (loads distributed evenly
over the supporting areas) :
a.
Upper level floor - 2000 pounds
Lower level floor - 1000 pounds
b.
c.
Upper level floor folding door - 800 pounds
d.
Total platform - 3000 pounds
e.
Staircase stairs - 400 pounds
There shall be no damage or permanent deformation anywhere on the structure of the
maintenance platform.
3.6 Finishes & Protective Coatings
3.6.1 Cleaning Plating & Painting Clenaing plating and metal pre-treatment
shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-808, Type 1 exposure, film designation ES for
structure , BG for handrails and guardrails and NG for stencils.
3.6.2 Welded Assembles. Assenblies that are welded or brazed after painting
shall be thoroughly cleaned of welded material and re-painted as specified in 3.6.1.
