items, and shall be made assembled by the same methods that are to be used in
production of the items to fulfill the terms of the contract. When specified,
a first article test report shall be prepared in accordance with MIL-STD-831
and submitted to the contracting officer for approval. The approved samples
and the first article report shall be used as the production standard.
3.2 Selection of specifications and standards. Specifications and
standards for necessary commodities and services not specified herein shall be
selected according to MIL-STD-143 except as provided in 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.
3.2.1 Commercial parts. Commercial parts having suitable properties may
be used where, on the date of invitation for bids, there are no suitable
standard parts. In any case, commercial utility parts, like screws, bolts,
nuts, cotter pins, having suitable properties may be used provided:
a. They can be replaced by the standard parts (MS and AN) without
alteration.
The corresponding standard part numbers are referenced in the parts
b.
list and, if practical, on the contractor's drawings.
3.2.2 Standard parts. With the exception of 3.2.1, MS and AN standard
parts shall be used where they suit the purpose. They shall be identified on
the drawings by their part numbers.
3.3 Design and construction. The design and construction of the mainte-
nance platform shall conform to Drawings 53J21491, 56J6283, 56J6284 and
56J6291. If this specification and the drawings conflict, the specification
shall govern.
3.4 Interchangeability. All parts having the same manufacturer's part
number shall be functionally and dimensionally interchangeable. The drawing
number requirements of DOD-D-1000 shall govern changes in the manufacturer's
part number.
3.5 Finishes and protective coatings. All components of the maintenance
platform shall be adequately protected against environmental deterioration.
Interior surfaces shall be finished in accordance with MIL-STD-808, finishing
scheme F105 or F106, whichever is applicable. Exterior surfaces shall be
finished in accordance with MIL-STD-808, finishing scheme F101. The color
shall be orange-yellow, color No. 13538 of FED-STD-595.
3.6 Erection instruction. Complete dismantling and erection instructions,
including diagrams or photographs, written procedure in proper sequence, and
reference to all parts by number, shall be provided in a waterproof envelope.
A suitable container for storage of erection instructions shall be attached to
the platform.
3.7 Performance. The maintenance platform shall be capable of operating
during or immediately following subjection to each of the following conditions:
a.
Operation during subjection to a 1000-pound static load (see 4.6.3).
1,500 pounds applied to the work platform with the elevating system in
b.
the fully extended position (see 4.6.4).
